Interdisciplinary Artist
Tyler (aka F.T. Cald) is a Los Angeles-raised, Chicago-based writer that specializes in the genres of personal essay and free-verse poetry. His work intermingles themes of urban nightlife, modern day interpersonal relationships, queer identity, and hedonistic youth culture in a way that is all at once blunt, comedic, and refreshingly honest.
At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he utilized his background in experimental diary filmmaking and photography to complement his interdisciplinary education. Every medium he explored drove him back to the same themes, which he found were most successfully articulated in the personal essay format.
Currently, F.T. Cald runs "The Chicago Nighthawk" a nonprofit writing publication that showcases the works of local writers and several select visual artists in a curation of stories centered around urban nightlife.
